Bennet Gage-Brown, Since 1981
I have had a love for everything mechanical ever since I could move my fingers. I grew up on a dairy farm in rural New Zealand, riding my PW80 up and down the farm tracks, wearing my dad’s ski gloves and goggles, going fast and doing skids.
After riding the PW80 into the ground it was time for a moto-x bike. I first raced at 11 and have had many MX bikes ranging from 80cc to 450cc since 1992. I had top ten national rankings in moto-x and super-x through my teenage years, riding throughout New Zealand and Australia.
I graduated from Waikato University with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Materials and Process Engineering in 2002. My day job is a mechanical design engineer, designing equipment for the heavy transport industry.
In 2005 I was introduced to the world of freeride/freestyle mountain biking, which I think is the most rewarding, sustainable and challenging type of recreation on two wheels. My mountee action started on a chromo hardtail and soon ended up a single speed - for straight out ease and no fuss. Soon the jumps became larger and the risk of axing became higher.
I found myself looking for full suspension options but after looking around at numerous bike designs and not finding what I wanted, I decided to make my own. Full sus, single speed, dirt jump geo, 4” front and rear, stiff as hell, and made from steel.
Early 2008 I parted with my much-loved RMZ450 to fund the building of the first Alted Pierat.
Alted, Since 2007
Some months later a bike emerged from the shed that wasn’t rode in. Ever since that moment bike designs and interest has been flooding in.
Alted means:- Altering
- Modifying
- Building something to meet a specification
- Fine tuning
- Strong, reliable and confidence inspiring
Alted will do what it is designed to do, it is completely made and fabricated by hard working people in New Zealand.
